Wie machst du das denn? Offene Gespräche über Care, Karriere und Chaos. Online-Vernetzungstreffen für Mütter in der Wissenschaft in Sachsen-Anhalt

Role model edition mit Dr.in Marina Zempeltzi

Stay curious and create a supporting network

How do other mothers manage to balance their careers and family life? What works well for them, what helps them—and what doesn’t always go as planned?

In this meeting, Dr. Maria-Marina Zempeltzi will share insights into her personal and professional journey in academia as part of the event series “How do you do it? Mothers in Science share their stories”. A neuroscientist, science manager and science communication expert, she currently serves as Project Manager of MAZI, the Magdeburg Center for Cell and Immunotherapy, at UMMD while balancing a scientific career and family life. Her talk will focus on the importance of curiosity, confidence in one’s own strengths, and supportive networks in shaping an authentic and fulfilling academic path. As both a mother and a scientist, she is passionate about making academic careers more visible, more human, and more compatible with real life – especially for young women researchers navigating their own paths in science.

As always, the meeting offers space for open exchange, questions, and mutual empowerment within an appreciative, confidential setting.

All interested individuals are warmly welcome—regardless of gender, career stage, or family situation.

An initiative of the pilot project  "Mutterschaft und Wissenschaft Maternity and Sciencewithin the FEM POWER Vision project.

The terms “motherhood” and “mother” can run the risk of perpetuating societal assumptions and stereotypes. We explicitly advocate for a use of these terms that reflects on these assumptions and is open to the diversity of mothers and motherhood. Not only cis women are mothers; not all mothers have given birth; and not everyone who has given birth is a mother.

Furthermore, motherhood does not affect only mothers—all people identified as female will be confronted with the topic in various ways at some point in their lives—regardless of whether they actually have children or wish to have them. By this, we mean, on the one hand, people who identify as mothers, regardless of their gender, and, on the other hand, people who experience motherhood or are confronted with it, even if they do not identify as mothers.
